A life in pictures

Cambridge Evening News
5th July 2005

Artists young and old have answered a call in the News to take part in a special exhibition.

Ted Coney is retiring from Hills Road Sixth Form College as head of art and design and asked former colleagues, students and artists-in-residence to submit their work.

Mr Coney, who has given 34 years' service to the Cambridge School, said: "It has been great to hear from so many people who directly or indirectly heard about the News story."

The present and the future will be represented by artwork from two current students and Mr Coney's colleagues, along with some from Jonathan Sansom, the new head of department.

Cousins William and Michael Tuck, both former students, are organising the exhibition.

It will be held in the hall on Friday from 7-9pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm.

Margaret Ingram, the former vice-principal, will officially open the show and 40 per cent of money raised by artwork sales will go to the tsunami appeal.

She has also been helping to channel donations to Phuket, in Thailand, to help older children there stay in school rather than have to work to support their families.

Mr Coney reckons his powers of recognition will be tested as he rolls back the years.

He said: "We've even got students coming back here from 34 years ago. I hope I'll recognise them!"
